Mr. Speaker, Poland's modern history has been dominated by a burning sense of freedom among its people and to this the world bore witness as hundreds of thousands of Polish soldiers fought bravely alongside Canadians to free Europe from fascism and tyranny during World War II. The Polish were instrumental to many of the greatest Allied triumphs, including the heroic Battle of Monte Cassino, which paved the way for the Allied to push to Rome.
Monsieur le Président, l'histoire moderne de la Pologne est dominée par la soif de liberté de son peuple, comme en témoignent les centaines de milliers de soldats polonais qui se sont battus avec bravoure aux côtés des Canadiens durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, pour libérer l'Europe du fascisme et de la tyrannie. Les Polonais ont joué un rôle important dans bon nombre des plus grandes victoires des forces alliées, notamment la bataille héroïque de Monte Cassino, qui a permis l'avance des forces alliées sur Rome.
