(2) Where the animals are brought into the country of final destination by road, they may be unloaded before the end of the journey in order to comply with the provisions on journey times and rest periods of Council Directive 91/628/EEC of 19 November 1991 on the protection of animals during transport(3).

Those three types of non-discriminatory inspections should cover: (a) non-discriminatory inspections carried out at place of departure before the animals are transported on long journeys between Member States and with third countries, and after the animals are unloaded from the means of transport at the place of destination when it is a slaughterhouse; (b) non-discriminatory inspections carried out during the transport; and (c) non-discriminatory inspections carried out after the completion of the transport to verify compliance with journey times and resting periods.

If the animals are transported directly to an approved assembly centre on their arrival in the destination country before being transported to the abattoir, their slaughter must take place within the three working days following their arrival in the assembly centre.
