Calls on the Commission to support, with all financial and political means, the efforts of Belarusian civil society, independent media and non-governmental organisations in Belarus to promote democracy and oppose the regime; upholds the request of the Belarusian opposition to increase financial support for political representation of Belarusian democratic opposition and civil society in Brussels; also calls on the Commission to halt the ongoing cooperation and to withdraw its assistance provided to the state-owned media in Belarus;
8. invite la Commission à soutenir, par tout moyen financier et politique, les efforts déployés par la société civile biélorusse, les médias indépendants et les organisations non gouvernementales du pays afin de favoriser la démocratie et de s'opposer au régime; soutient la demande de l'opposition biélorusse visant à accroître l'aide financière en faveur de la représentation politique de l'opposition démocratique et de la société civile biélorusses à Bruxelles; demande également à la Commission de mettre un terme à sa coopération avec la Biélorussie ainsi qu'à l'aide qu'elle apporte aux médias détenus par l'État biélorusse;

Insists that representatives of the Belarusian democratic opposition and civil society must be included in the dialogue between the EU and Belarus; in this context, recommends that Belarus should be granted observer status in the Euronest initiative and be represented by a delegation of five members from the Belarusian Parliament and five representatives drawn from the democratic opposition; insists that if the Belarusian authorities do not accept the '5+5' offer the Belarusian side should be represented by 10 members of civil society and the democratic opposition;

8. The EU reiterates its firm commitment to strengthening its engagement with the Belarusian people and civil society and to supporting the democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people.

It is our responsibility as one of the world's great democracies not only to do what we can to ensure that Belarusians have this choice, but to send a clear message to all Belarusians that Canada stands clearly in favour of an open, fair and democratic process.
