I would like to remind everyone of the British Airways plane which flew through an ash cloud on its way to New Zealand in 1982 and, in particular, of the serious incident involving a KLM Boeing 747 in 1989 which flew through a thick cloud of volcanic ash.

I am in no doubt that British pilots are among the best in the world, and indeed the same applies to British Airways, which is why I am never afraid of flying with that airline.

The criticism might be justified in this case, but why should it necessarily be Air France which has to link Strasbourg with the other European cities and not British Airways or, I do not know, Alitalia, Iberia or even airlines which are not what are known as national airlines.
