The arrogance with which Ankara haughtily refused to make the slightest effort in the area of human rights – examples I would cite include the recognition of the Armenian genocide, and the recent scandalous charges brought against Mr Orhan Pamuk, the Turkish author, with regard to linguistic rights for the Kurdish minority –shows how Turkey and its culture remain incompatible with our European values.
L’arrogance avec laquelle Ankara a hautainement refusé de faire le moindre effort en matière de droits de l’homme - je citerais notamment les exemples de la reconnaissance du génocide arménien et des scandaleux chefs d’accusation portés récemment à l’encontre de M. Orhan Pamuk, un auteur turc, en ce qui concerne les droits linguistiques pour la minorité kurde - montre à quel point la Turquie et sa culture restent incompatibles avec nos valeurs européennes.
