Cable operators took Canadian authors, composers and music publishers as far as the Supreme Court on the pretext that they, the cable operators, were simply carriers and that, therefore, they were not in violation of the Copyright Act. The case was before the courts for 10 years, it was eventually taken before the Supreme Court where it was decided that, given that they offer a range of services, they are providing Canadian cultural content.
