Taking up was said in the declaration of the Stockholm Holocaust Forum in January 2000, and the statement by the European ministers of education in October 2002, I would like to add my support for the proposal that a European Day of Remembrance be set aside in each country, to be chosen in the light of its own history, in order to remember the victims of the Holocaust and the struggle against all crimes against humanity, and to pay homage to all those who, sometimes at the risk of their own lives, have opposed and continue to oppose such horrendous deeds.
Rappelant la déclaration du Forum international de Stockholm sur l'Holocauste de janvier 2000 et celle des ministres européens de l'Éducation d'octobre 2002, je soutiens et fais mienne la proposition d'instituer une "journée européenne de la mémoire", dont la date serait fixée, dans chaque État membre de l'Union, en fonction de l'histoire nationale. Cette journée serait celle des victimes de la Shoah et de la lutte contre les crimes contre l'humanité, et elle rendrait hommage à tous ceux qui, fût-ce au risque de leur vie, se sont opposés et s'opposent à ces horreurs.
