Former Commission Vice-President Almunia visited ECON twice – in March and September – in the context of the structured dialogue.

The Committee is therefore surprised by the gap between the goals legitimately advocated by the Commission vice-president and the somewhat less ambitious actions actually proposed in the communication. It also points out that, in a previous opinion (5), it encouraged the Commission to be more ambitious than ‘cloud-active’ for Europe, suggesting that it should aim to be ‘cloud-productive’.
Le Comité s’étonne donc de l’écart entre les objectifs légitimement défendus par la Vice-présidente de la Commission, avec, en deçà, la réalité des actions proposées dans la communication. De plus, il rappelle que, dans un précédent avis (5), il avait encouragé la Commission à être plus ambitieuse que «cloud-active» pour l’Europe, en proposant qu'elle vise à être « cloud-productive ».

European Commission vice-president Neelie Kroes said in Davos (27.1.2011), ‘I want to make Europe not just “cloud-friendly” but “cloud-active”’ and officially announced the communication in an article on her blog entitled ‘Making Europe cloud active’ (27.9.2012).

I believe that I have also answered Mr Sonik by confirming my commitment, and I think that I can make this commitment on behalf of the Commission – Vice-President Wallström is also responsible for communication – that we will do all we can to provide information to citizens and above all to young citizens, who are therefore learners, of the risks and dangers that they run every time they travel in a vehicle.
