– (ES) Mr President, to the things I condemned yesterday in this very House – that is to say, the obscure backroom manoeuvres of the Spanish Government aimed at reducing the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Castro regime – I can now add the media manipulation of the results of the meeting of the European Council’s Committee on Latin America, which at no point has reduced the sanctions imposed on the regime in 2003.
- (ES) Monsieur le Président, aux choses que j’ai condamnées hier dans cette même Assemblée - à savoir, les obscures manœuvres entreprises en coulisses par le gouvernement espagnol en vue d’atténuer les sanctions imposées par l’Union européenne à l’encontre du régime de Castro -, je peux à présent ajouter la manipulation médiatique des résultats de la réunion du comité du Conseil européen sur l’Amérique latine, qui n’a en aucune façon atténué les sanctions imposées au régime en 2003.

15. Applauds the Commission for coming out in favour of setting up the Euro-Latin American Transatlantic Assembly at the Vienna Summit, since this will help to consolidate democratic governance and strengthen the parliamentary dimension of the partnership; calls on the Fourth Summit to provide expressly in the Final Act or "Vienna undertaking" for the setting-up of the Assembly as proposed by the Euro-Latin American joint parliamentary bodies, with the membership being drawn in equal numbers from the Members of the European Parliament on the one hand and, on the other, from the Parlatino, the Parlacen, the Parlandino, the Mercosur Joint Parliamentary Committee and the EU-Mexico and EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committees;
15. remercie la Commission de soutenir expressément la création, à Vienne, de l'assemblée transatlantique euro-latino-américaine, laquelle permettra de consolider la gouvernance démocratique et de renforcer la dimension parlementaire du Partenariat; demande au IV sommet de décider expressément, dans l'acte final ou dans l'engagement de Vienne, de la création de cette assemblée telle que proposée par les instances parlementaires communes euro-latino-américaines, assemblée composée d'un nombre égal de membres du Parlement européen, d'une part, et du Parlatino, du Parlacen, du Parlandino, de la commission conjointe du Mercosur et des commissions parlementaires mixtes UE-Mexique et UE-Chili, d'autre part;

Calls on the partners to pursue joint initiatives and hold more frequent social forums bringing together the business world, workers, consumers and civil society on the one hand representing the EU and Latin America as such and on the other within the different countries; calls on the European Economic and Social Committee to intensify its activities in this area and pass on its experience to the Latin American partners; in this connection, welcomes the positive contributions made by the Civil Society Forums meeting alongside the Summits;
