The Spanish constitution recognises it. The Madrid authorities have apparently decided to define 'high-speed' as 300 kph in one case only (the line between Ourense [Orense] and Santiago). The proposed speeds are much lower for the line connecting A Coruña [La Coruña] and Ourense and for the Ourense-Vigo line. These lines, however, are essential for internal communications within Galicia and for the link with Portugal. In view of this, the demand is now being heard in socio-economic and political milieux in southern Galicia for a high-speed line to cover the route Ourense-Vigo-Santiago-A Coruña: this line would connect with central Spain from Ourense, and with Portugal from Vigo.
