Definition: The common themes that are shared by dissociative or conversion disorders are a partial or complete loss of the normal integration between memories of the past, awareness of identity and immediate sensations, and control of bodily movements. All types of dissociative disorders tend to remit after a few weeks or months, particularly if their onset is associated with a traumatic life event. More chronic disorders, particularly paralyses and anaesthesias, may develop if the onset is associated with insoluble problems or interpersonal difficulties. These disorders have previously been classified as various types of conversion hysteria . They are presumed to be psychogenic in origin, being associated closely in time with traumatic events, insoluble and intolerable problems, or disturbed relationships. The symptoms often represent the patient's concept of how a physical illness would be manifest. Medical examination and investigation do not reveal the presence of any known physical or neurological disorder. In addition, there is evidence that the loss of function is an expression of emotional conflicts or needs. The symptoms may develop in close relationship to psychological stress, and often appear suddenly. Only disorders of physical functions normally under voluntary control and loss of sensations are included here. Disorders involving pain and other complex physical sensations mediated by the autonomic nervous system are classified under somatization disorder (F45.0). Définition: Les divers troubles dissociatifs (ou de conversion) ont en commun une perte partielle ou complète des fonctions normales d'intégration des souvenirs, de la conscience de l'identité ou des sensations immédiates et du contrôle des mouvements corporels. Toutes les variétés de troubles dissociatifs ont tendance à disparaître après quelques semaines ou mois, en particulier quand leur survenue est associée à un événement traumatique. L'évolution peut également se faire vers des troubles plus chroniques, en particulier des paralysies et des anesthésies, quand la survenue du trouble est liée à des problèmes ou des difficultés interpersonnelles insolubles. In the area of expenditure, the Council stresses the need, in particular: - to improve the management and control of the CMO in fruit and vegetables, and requests an assessment of the intervention system in this CMO once the reform has been fully applied; - for the Structural Funds, to reduce the concentration of payments at the end of the budgetary year by improving coordination between the Commission and the Member States; - in the field of regional policy, to take every step to ensure that the proper procedure is followed in respect of public works contracts, and to apply stringently environmental legislation in all action financed from the Community budget; - regarding policy on SMEs, to use a more precise and realistic definition of SMEs and to facilitate their access to the existing instruments; - in the area of research (Human Capital and Mobility programme), to ensure comprehensive, consistent management of the programme, and optimum coordination of the departments concerned; - regarding the PHARE and TACIS programmes, to improve coordination between those taking part, in order to ensure that the studies carried out are followed by specific action, and to conduct a systematic prior assessment before any decision is taken to renew each programme; - with respect to the programmes concerning the Mediterranean countries, to improve the allocation of its human resources, in order to optimize the conditions for implementing its programmes; - regarding the Commission's external delegations, to ensure strict compliance with Community rules on statutory and financial matters, and the establishment of an inventory of all movable property.
