The ERC President, Professor Helga Nowotny attended the European Excellence Conference 2012 organised in Aarhus under the Danish Presidency and the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin.

The two day high-level conference, organised by the European Commission and the Danish Presidency of the EU, will be attended by members of the European Parliament's Inter-group on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals together with Health and Consumer Policy Commissioner John Dalli as well as senior officials from the European Commission and the Danish Presidency of the EU.
Organisée par la Commission européenne et la présidence danoise de l’UE, cette conférence de haut niveau réunit pendant deux jours les membres de l’Intergroupe du Parlement européen pour le bien-être animal et la protection des animaux, le commissaire à la santé et à la politique des consommateurs, M. John Dalli, ainsi que de hauts fonctionnaires de la Commission et de la présidence danoise.

The Council was also informed that the Danish Presidency and the Commission would host a conference on animal welfare on 29 February and 1 March 2012 in Brussels and it took note of the Presidency's intentions to further discuss this matter at a forthcoming session. This issue is one of the priorities of the Danish Presidency (See point on the work programme).
