The Commission has decided to initiate the formal investigation procedure under Article 88(2) of the EC Treaty in respect of aid of euro 21 million (BEF 850 million) granted in 1997 by the Region of Wallonia to the Verlipack group, which was declared bankrupt on 18 January 1999.
