The European Union today adopted the Joint Communication "Strengthened EU support for Tunisia",reaffirming the European Union's commitment to Tunisia's democratic transition.
L'Union européenne a adopté aujourd'hui la communication conjointe intitulée «Renforcer le soutien de l'UE à la Tunisie», qui réaffirme son engagement en faveur de la transition démocratique en Tunisie.

This Joint Communication aims at reaffirming today the European Union's commitment to Tunisia's democratic transition and mobilising European Union's institutions and EU Member States' support, political, operational and financial, to help Tunisia implement the reforms that are not only needed but also wanted by the citizens.
Cette communication conjointe vise à réaffirmer aujourd'hui l'engagement contracté par l'Union européenne au regard de la transition démocratique tunisienne et à mobiliser le soutien, tant politique qu'opérationnel et financier, des institutions et des États membres de l'Union, afin d'aider la Tunisie à mettre en œuvre des réformes qui, non seulement sont nécessaires, mais que les citoyens appellent de surcroît de leurs vœux.

The European Union has consistently shown its support for the transition process in the DRC and for the reform of the security sector, including by the adoption of two other Joint Actions: Joint Action 2004/847/CFSP of 9 December 2004 on the European Union Police Mission in Kinshasa (DRC) regarding the Integrated Police Unit (EUPOL Kinshasa) (2) and Joint Action 2006/319/CFSP of 27 April 2006 on the European Union military operation in support of the United Nations Organisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) during the election process (3) (Operation EUFOR RD Congo).

Further to an official invitation from the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on 2 May 2005 the Council adopted Joint Action 2005/355/CFSP on the European Union mission to provide advice and assistance for security sector reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (1) (EUSEC RD Congo), in particular in order to support the transition process in the DRC, including the formation of a restructured and integrated national army, as established by the Global and Inclusive Agreement signed by the Congolese parties in Pretoria on 17 December 2002, followed by the Final Act signed in Sun City on 2 April 2003.
À la suite d'une invitation officielle du gouvernement de République démocratique du Congo (RDC), le Conseil a adopté, le 2 mai 2005, l'action commune 2005/355/PESC relative à la mission de conseil et d'assistance de l'Union européenne en matière de réforme du secteur de la sécurité en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) (1) (EUSEC RD Congo), notamment pour soutenir le processus de transition en RDC, y compris la formation d’une armée nationale, restructurée et intégrée, instaurée par l'accord global et inclusif, signé par les parties congolaises à Pretoria le 17 décembre 2002, suivi par l'Acte final signé à Sun City, le 2 avril 2003.

On 2 May 2005 the Council adopted Joint Action 2005/355/CFSP on the European Union mission to provide advice and assistance for security sector reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (1) (EUSEC RD Congo) and, subsequently on 1 December 2005, adopted Joint Action 2005/868/CFSP amending Joint Action 2005/355/CFSP with regard to setting up a technical assistance project on improving the chain of payments of the Ministry of Defence in the DRC (2).
Le 2 mai 2005, le Conseil a adopté l'action commune 2005/355/PESC relative à la mission de conseil et d'assistance de l'Union européenne en matière de réforme du secteur de la sécurité en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) (1) (EUSEC RD Congo). Il a ensuite adopté, le 1er décembre 2005, l'action commune 2005/868/PESC modifiant l'action commune 2005/355/PESC en ce qui concerne la mise en place d'un projet d'assistance technique relatif à l'amélioration de la chaîne de paiement du ministère de la défense en RDC (2).

The first concerns Amendment No 6 by the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats and myself. It has also been supported by the Group of the Party of European Socialists. The European Parliament ‘[c]onsiders that the elaboration of the common foreign and security policy towards the UN should be characterised by the participation and joint influence of all the European Union’s Member States’.

In many areas, indeed, the European Parliament is already an arm of the legislature on equal terms with the Council.
