That the Committee immediately begin an examination of the library closure at the Pacific Region Headquarters Library, Vancouver; the Pacific Biological Station Library, Nanaimo; the Eric Marshall Aquatic Research Library, Winnipeg; the Maurice Lamontagne Institute Library, Mont-Joli; the Mere Juliette Library of the Gulf Fisheries Centre, Moncton; the St, Andrews Biological Station Library, St. Andrews; and the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre Library, St. John's, based on accusations that the Department of Fisheries & Oceans destroyed valuable and irreplaceable research, including research papers that were thrown in the dumpster; and, that the witnesses include officials from the Department of Fisheries & Oceans, Library and Archives Canada, and researchers who depend on these libraries for their work.

Stresses the need for the parliamentary committees to be provided with appropriate tools which enable them to gain a sound understanding of gender mainstreaming, such as indicators, data and statistics broken down by gender, and for the budgetary resources to be allocated from a gender-equality viewpoint, in such a way as to encourage the committees to take advantage of in-house expertise (secretariat of the relevant committee, policy department, library, etc.) and external expertise in other local, regional, national and supranational institutions, be they public or private, in small, medium-sized and large companies and in universities working in the area of gender equality;

The infrastructure works to be financed by the European Investment Bank include: improvement of the energy efficiency of the building housing the Economics and Management Department; refurbishment of the rectory and the Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering Department; construction of a new building to house the Engineering Department’s library; conversion and modernisation of the Mathematics and Physics Department; modification of laboratories to house a data centre and conversion of teaching rooms into biotechnology and IT laboratories.
