The European Commission welcomes the announcement by Eurotunnel today to commit to reduce the current level of track access charges imposed on rail freight operators using the Tunnel by up to 50% - this should allow rail freight in the Channel Tunnel to double in the next 5 years.

La Commission européenne se félicite de l'annonce faite aujourd'hui par Eurotunnel, qui s'est engagé à instaurer jusqu'à 50 % de réduction du niveau actuel des redevances d'accès aux voies imposées aux opérateurs de fret ferroviaire qui utilisent le tunnel sous la Manche. Cette nouvelle tarification devrait permettre de doubler le volume de marchandises transportées par train via le tunnel d'ici cinq ans.
