Additionally, the European Commission and the European pharmaceutical industry are funding eight research projects on the development of vaccines and rapid diagnostics tests, which are key to overcoming the current Ebola crisis.

E. whereas the Chad Government wishes to extend use of the 10% of funds earmarked for future generations to territorial administration and security and whereas, as a result, the World Bank has suspended disbursement of appropriations equal to US $ 124 million allocated to Chad by the International Development Association (IDA) to finance eight projects currently in progress amounting to a total of US $ 297 million,

Recognises that current and future trade agreements are being negotiated in the context of an economic depression which is projected to increase the number of people unemployed in OECD countries by eight million in two years; that off-shoring accounts for a high proportion of job losses, for example in Ireland and Portugal (one in four), Denmark (one in six) and Estonia and Slovenia (one in seven); and that EU trade policy should seek to prevent a disproportionate or over-rapid decline in EU market share and employment levels in any given sector and, where appropriate, ensure greater market access for EU exporters; calls for trade agreements to be concluded in the light of the scope for the EU’s Globalisation Adjustment Fund to provide adequate levels of assistance towards consequential restructuring;

I believe that everybody, the Commission, of course, but also the Council, and in particular the Eurogroup, the European Central Bank and the European Parliament, have the responsibility to explain to our citizens that this European project, eight years after its creation, is currently yielding very good results.

The ISPA programme currently finances eight projects in the environment and transport sector which amount to a total European contribution of € 83,2 million.
