B. whereas Ethiopia and Eritrea ended their war by signing the internationally brokered 'Algiers Agreements' providing for a UN peace-keeping operation mission (UNMEE) and the setting-up of the Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC), but there are still differences between the two sides regarding the implementation of the agreements and of the decision of the Boundary Commission; whereas the UNMEE had to be ended on 31 July 2008 as Eritrea no longer supported the presence of the mission,

4. The Council underlined the urgent need for immediate concrete steps to be taken by Ethiopia to enable the Ethiopia Eritrea Boundary Commission to demarcate the border completely and without delay.

11. Ministers warmly welcomed the announcement by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, of its Five-Points Proposal, which included its acceptance, in principle, of the decision of the Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC), as an important step toward the full implementation of the decision of the EEBC and to overcome the stalemate in the Ethiopian-Eritrean peace process.
11. Les ministres se sont vivement félicités de la proposition en cinq points annoncée par la République démocratique fédérale d'Éthiopie, qui prévoit une acceptation de principe de la décision de la Commission de tracé des frontières entre l'Éthiopie et l'Érythrée, ce qui constitue un premier pas important vers l'application intégrale de cette décision vers une solution permettant de sortir de l'impasse dans laquelle se trouve le processus de paix entre l'Éthiopie et l'Érythrée.

In this regard, the EU pledges its full support to the UN mission to Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) which has an important role to assist Ethiopia and Eritrea in implementing the decision of the Boundary Commission.
