In the course of the last three years, the Commission has sought a closer integration of the Europe Direct services – the Europe Direct Contact Centre and the Network of around 450 Europe Direct Information Centres, and Your Europe-Citizens web portal in order to provide citizens with a fully multilingual and multichannel information platform: online, by telephone, by e-mail and in person.

The mission of the new Europe Direct Network for the 2013-2017 period was re-defined by stating clearly the role of the Information Centres as key partners of the "one-stop shop" and in terms of providing information about the EU by referring citizens to the relevant content of Your Europe.

A single gateway integrating existing EU on-line services will be set up for citizens and businesses to find answers about the single market, in the form of a "one-stop shop" access to the current information, assistance and problem-solving systems managed by the EU (including Europe Direct, Your Europe, SOLVIT, Citizens' Signpost Service, EURES and the new integrated business support network).

Measures may include ensuring that the contact points of the Europe Enterprise Network and the Europe Direct service are provided with adequate information and, if necessary, training, to offer a high standard of service to SMEs, and refocusing the Enterprise Europe Network on providing targeted, tailor-made support for SMEs.

Recommends the establishment of a European Counselling Service Network to help local communities deal with this problem by providing information, know-how and guidance regarding the integration of women; recommends the promotion and use of instruments and networks and continued funding for existing European networks, as well as instruments facilitating mobility such as EURES, Your Europe and Europe Direct, which also make it easier for women to find information about their rights and opportunities in the various Member States;

It is based on an analysis of the complaints received by the European Commission and by the assistance services (SOLVIT network, ‘Your Europe Advice’ service, ‘Enterprise Europe Network’, European Consumer Centres, Europe Direct phone line, EU walk-in information office, European Employment Service) in conjunction with the results of the most recent Eurobarometer surveys and targeted surveys of specific target groups.

27. Calls on the Commission to find ways to increase coordination and improve practical cooperation between existing tools such as SOLVIT, Your Europe Advice, the Enterprise Europe Network, European Consumer Centres, the European Employment Service, IMI, the Europe Direct information network and the points of single contact to avoid duplication of efforts and resources and hence achieve more effective management;
