The outcomes of the debates that took place at the Symposium on 'Benefits and Limitations of Nuclear Fission Research for a Low Carbon Economy' prepared by an interdisciplinary study involving, among others, experts from the fields of energy, economics and social sciences, co-organised by the Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels on 26 and 27 February 2013, recognised the need to continue nuclear research at the European level.
Les résultats des débats qui ont eu lieu lors du symposium intitulé "Avantages et limites de la fission nucléaire pour une économie bas carbone", préparé par un groupe d'étude interdisciplinaire auquel ont notamment été associés des experts issus des domaines de l'énergie, de l'économie et des sciences sociales, et co-organisé par la Commission et le Comité économique et social européen les 26 et 27 février 2013 à Bruxelles, a reconnu la nécessité de poursuivre la recherche nucléaire au niveau européen.

In this context, the EDPS is glad to note that also the European Economic and Social Committee (‘EESC’), in its opinion of 26 October 2006 on the Proposal, pointed out the need to ensure adequate protection of personal data, especially in consideration of the sometimes sensitive nature of the data at stake (7).
