I should like to underline one new aspect that arose at this European Council to which Chancellor Schüssel did not allude, but which I feel is worthy of mention.
Permettez-moi d’évoquer un aspect relatif au Conseil européen, auquel le chancelier Schüssel n’a pas fait allusion mais qui mérite notre attention, me semble-t-il.

CONSIDERING a report by the European Commission to the European Council of 2001(Council Document 6997/01) which identifies population ageing and its social and economic challenges to growth and prosperity to be among the most pressing challenges of the 21st century in Europe, which points out serious infrastructure gaps in understanding individual and population ageing, and which then calls to ‘examine the possibility of establishing, in cooperation with Member States, a European Longitudinal Ageing Survey’ in order to foster European research on ageing.
PRENANT acte d’un rapport de la Commission européenne au Conseil européen de 2001 (document du Conseil 6997/01) qui définit le vieillissement de la population et ses conséquences sociales et économiques pour la croissance et la prospérité comme l’un des défis majeurs du 21e siècle en Europe, fait apparaître de sérieux déficits d’infrastructure dans la compréhension du vieillissement au niveau individuel et de la population, et préconise enfin «d’examiner la possibilité de réaliser, en coopération avec les États membres, une étude longitudinale sur le vieillissement» afin de promouvoir la recherche européenne en la matière.

The importance of the further promotion of E-Justice has also been stressed by the Council which at its meeting of 12 and 13 June 2007 requested the continuation of work on E-Justice "with a view to creating at European level a technical platform", as well as by the European Council which concluded at its meeting of 21 and 22 June 2007 that "the Council should also further promote electronic communication on legal matters («E-Justice»)".
