– (NL) Mr President, long before the European Union entered into existence, we enjoyed good cooperation on the railways, with cross-border, long-distance train services, with people being able to buy direct tickets to far-flung destinations in their own countries and an international time table being available in every country.
- (NL) Monsieur le Président, bien avant la création de l’Union européenne, nous avons connu une excellente coopération dans le secteur ferroviaire, grâce aux services ferroviaires transfrontaliers sur de longues distances, grâce à la possibilité offerte aux voyageurs d’acheter dans leur propre pays des billets directs pour des destinations lointaines et grâce à la mise à disposition dans chaque pays d’un horaire international.

12. Calls on the Intergovernmental Conference to incorporate the draft decision of the European Council establishing the composition of the European Parliament, as set out in Annex 1 to this resolution, in a declaration on Article [9a](2) of the Treaty on European Union as incorporated in the draft amending treaty to be attached to the final act of the said Conference with the proviso that it will be formally adopted in accordance with the procedure laid down in the aforementioned Article [9a](2) immediately after the entry into force of the amending treaty; undertakes, for its part, to act without delay once the amending treaty has entered into force; calls on the European Council to give effect to the aforementioned declaration, as soon as the amending treaty enters into force and in accordance with its provisions, so that the Member States can enact, in good time, the necessary domestic provisions for organising the elections to the European Parliament for the 2009-2014 parliamentary term;
12. demande à la Conférence intergouvernementale de reprendre dans une déclaration - à joindre à l'Acte final de ladite Conférence - sur l'article [9 A], paragraphe 2, du traité sur l'Union européenne, tel qu'il est repris dans le projet de traité modificatif, le projet de décision du Conseil européen fixant la composition du Parlement européen figurant à l'annexe 1 de la présente résolution, étant entendu que son adoption formelle conformément à la procédure prévue à l'article [9 A], paragraphe 2, précité, aura lieu immédiatement après l'entrée en vigueur du traité modificatif; s'engage, en ce qui le concerne, à faire diligence dès l'entrée en vigueur du traité modificatif; invite le Conseil européen à mettre en œuvre la déclaration mentionnée plus haut dès que le traité modificatif entrera en vigueur et conformément à ses dispositions, afin de permettre aux États membres de prendre les dispositions internes nécessaires en temps utile pour l'organisation des élections au Parlement européen pour la législature 2009-2014;

(11) In organising the provision of assistance to disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility, and the training of their personnel, airports and air carriers should have regard to the Code of Good Conduct in Ground Handling for Persons of Reduced Mobility of the European Civil Aviation Conference ('ECAC') set out in Annex J to ECAC document 30 ('the ECAC Code of Good Conduct').

Finally, particular importance was attached to implementing the Community Action Programme to promote cooperation between the Member States to combat social exclusion despite its established shortcomings, namely by holding an annual Round Table conference on social exclusion, encouraging the development of exchanges of good practice and innovative approaches, and consolidating the statistical machinery so as to ensure the continuous monitoring of the entire European strategy for combating poverty and social exclusion.

The conference on "Valorising good products and experiences in educational and vocational training in an enlarged Europe" is being organised by the vocational training directorate of the Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, with the support of a scientific committee of European experts.

I hope that in later stages of proceedings we will be able to reach agreement on the training of professional drivers for the carriage of goods or passengers by road, which we also consider to be a vitally important factor in improving road safety and in preventing market distortions, specifically in the transport market within the European Union. I hope this happens because, as I have already said, many of the amendments tabled are going to be accepted and some of those that mention the suitability of leaving a wider margin for subsidiarity will be incorporated into the amended proposal that we will be presenting at an appropriate time.
J’espère qu’au cours des prochaines étapes, nous parviendrons à un accord sur la formation des conducteurs professionnels de marchandises ou de voyageurs, car nous considérons qu’il s’agit là d’un point également très important pour améliorer la sécurité routière et éviter les distorsions de marchés, plus précisément du marché des transports au sein de l’Union européenne, car, comme je l’ai déjà dit, un grand nombre des amendements proposés vont être acceptés et parmi ceux qui mentionnent l’opportunité de laisser plus de marge au principe de subsidiarité, plusieurs seront intégrés à la proposition modifiée que nous présenterons le moment venu.

This Conference on Research, Training and Agriculture in Europe is being held at a particularly important time for the European Community.

This group should be set up as soon as possible and should be requested to produce an initial report by the end of June; - the continuation of the discussions initiated in the Round Table workshops with the major currency-user categories on a national, sectoral or Community basis; - the launching of measures tailored to specific user groups (consumer organisations, the disadvantaged, the elderly or the handicapped) and economic agents (SMEs) that may encounter particular difficulties as a result of the move to the Euro, with a view to identifying their individual needs and to devising appropriate information measures; - the supply of precise information in good time for users of the future single currency on certain technical arrangements arising from the scenario adopted by the European Council in Madrid (decimalization of the Euro, technical specifications, the legal status of the Euro, etc.) as the work undertaken under the auspices of the Community institutions proceeds. conclusions for Workshop 1 (morning) The basis underpinning any advance of the European Union is the citizen's confidence in his capacity as voter, taxpayer, wage-earner, unemployed person and consumer.

Conclusions pour l'Atelier 1 (matinée) Le socle de toute avancée de l'Union Européenne repose sur la confiance du citoyen en sa qualité d'électeur, de contribuable, de salarié, de chômeur et de consommateur.
