– (DE) Mr President, one reason why this House has welcomed you with so much applause, Mr Steinmeier, is that you, during the European Union’s fiftieth birthday celebrations, like Mrs Merkel, set before us the positive objectives of this revived constitutional process, yet, nevertheless, people in this House keep on asking themselves how and when this diplomatic process centring on the mini-treaty or some other treaty, being currently closed, will be re-opened.
- (DE) Monsieur le Président, l’une des raisons pour lesquelles ce Parlement vous a accueilli avec autant d’applaudissements, Monsieur Steinmeier, est que vous nous avez présenté à l’occasion des célébrations de commémoration du cinquantième anniversaire de l’Union européenne, à l’instar de Mme Merkel, les objectifs positifs de ce processus constitutionnel ranimé. Des députés de ce Parlement continuent toutefois à se demander comment et quand ce processus diplomatique centré sur le mini-traité ou un quelconque autre traité, qui est actuellement bloqué, sera rouvert.

At a time when we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome, I would like to place particular emphasis on the political responsibility of the European Union for drawing up the terms, and opening the way, for future membership of the Union to Serbia.

Moubarak, Président de la République arabe d'Egypte, à qui il adresse l'expression de sa sympathie; - il a adopté la déclaration sur le Burundi (partie B, page 38); - il a exprimé l'espoir que le traité portant interdiction totale des essais nucléaires serait signé au plus tard à la fin de 1996.
