I think for the larger clients, that probably makes sense; but for small public companies, the fact is, they generally do not have the in-house accounting talent to prepare a good solid set of GAAP financial statements and, if they do not get the auditors to help them prepare their financial statements and ensure they are done in accordance with GAAP, they either have to find a way to do it in-house, which means the quality of financial reporting may go down rather than up, or they will be forced to hire another firm at significant expense to do that work for them.
