The Council has examined Special Report No 3/2001 by the Court of Auditors on the Commission's management during the period 1993 to 1999 of the fisheries agreements concluded with Morocco, Mauritania, Greenland, Senegal and Argentina, which together accounted for 92% of the payments charged to the financial year 1999. [4]

The Council further expressed its commitment to base the future relationship of the Union with Greenland after 2006 on a comprehensive partnership for sustainable development which would include a specific fisheries agreement, negotiated according to the general rules and principles for such agreements.

The treatment on import into the Union of products subject to the common organisation of the market in fishery products, originating in Greenland, shall, while complying with the mechanisms of the internal market organisation, involve exemption from customs duties and charges having equivalent effect and the absence of quantitative restrictions or measures having equivalent effect if the possibilities for access to Greenland fishing zones granted to the Union pursuant to an agreement between the Union and the authority responsible for Greenland are satisfactory to the Union.

Le traitement à l'importation dans l'Union des produits soumis à l'organisation commune des marchés de la pêche, originaires du Groenland, s'effectue, dans le respect des mécanismes de l'organisation commune des marchés, en exemption de droits de douane et de taxes d'effet équivalent, et sans restrictions quantitatives ni mesures d'effet équivalent, si les possibilités d'accès aux zones de pêche groenlandaises ouvertes à l'Union en vertu d'un accord entre l'Union et l'autorité compétente pour le Groenland sont satisfaisantes pour l'Union.
