The three speakers who opened the Round Table, Frits Bolkestein, Tomasso Padoa-Schioppa and Karla Peijs, representing the Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Parliament respectively, made it clear that all three institutions shared a common objective: the creation of a single payments area.
