Welcomes the reports to be presented by the Special Rapporteurs on, inter alia , the human rights situations in Iran, Burma/Myanmar and the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, along with the written report to be presented by the High Commissioner on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Mali, particularly the northern part of the country, as well as on housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, on the right to non-discrimination in this context, on freedom of thought, religion or belief and on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism;
3. accueille avec satisfaction les rapports qui seront présentés par les rapporteurs spéciaux, notamment sur la situation des droits de l'homme en Iran, en Birmanie/Myanmar et dans les territoires palestiniens occupés depuis 1967, ainsi que le rapport écrit de la Haut-Commissaire aux droits de l'homme sur la situation des droits de l'homme au Mali, en particulier dans le nord du pays, ainsi que sur le logement en tant qu'élément du droit à un niveau de vie suffisant et sur le droit à la non-discrimination à cet égard, sur la liberté de pensée, de religion ou de conviction et sur la promotion et la protection des droits de l'homme et des libertés fondamentales dans la lutte antiterroriste;

The general objective of the Instrument shall be to contribute to ensuring a high level of security in the Union while facilitating legitimate travel, through a uniform and high level of control of the external borders and the effective processing of Schengen visas, in compliance with the Union’s commitment to fundamental freedoms and human rights.

L’instrument a pour objectif général de contribuer à assurer un niveau de sécurité élevé dans l’Union tout en facilitant les voyages effectués de façon légitime, au moyen d’un niveau uniforme et élevé de contrôle aux frontières extérieures et du traitement efficace des visas Schengen, dans le respect de l’engagement de l’Union en faveur des libertés fondamentales et des droits de l’homme.

Investigations should be conducted in accordance with the Treaties and in particular with Protocol No 7 on the privileges and immunities of the European Union, while respecting the Staff Regulations of Officials and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union laid down in Council Regulation (EEC, Euratom, ECSC) No 259/68 (‘the Staff Regulations’) and the Statute for Members of the European Parliament, and with full respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, in particular the principle of fairness, for the right of persons involved to express their views on the facts concerning them and for the principle that the conclusions of an investigation may be based solely on elements which have evidential value.

The Barcelona Declaration adopted at the Euro-Mediterranean conference in 1995 states that youth exchanges should be the means to prepare future generations for closer cooperation between the Euro-Mediterranean partners, while respecting the principles of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
