The Commission proposed to become active in giving financial assistance to the Turkish-Cypriot northern parts for economic development, so as to promote trade with the northern part and bring it closer to the Union.
La Commission a proposé de jouer un rôle actif en offrant une aide financière aux régions chypriotes-turques du nord du pays pour faciliter leur développement économique, afin de promouvoir le commerce avec ces régions du nord et d'aider à son rapprochement avec l’Union.

Calls on the Turkish Government and all parties concerned to give their active support to the ongoing negotiations on the Cyprus issue and to contribute in concrete terms to a comprehensive settlement, and calls on the Government to facilitate a suitable climate for negotiations by starting to withdraw its forces from Cyprus immediately; strongly urges the two communities in Cyprus to work intensively, in accordance with the UN Secretary-General’s request, to capitalise on the progress already made in the negotiations, in order to reach a sustainable solution – in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and promoting, in particular, Resolution 550 (1984), and with the principles on which the EU is founded – for the benefit of Cypriot citizens, the EU and Turkey;

Measures envisaged under the plan include giving Turkish Cypriots and Turkish settlers Turkish citizenship, the settlement and distribution of land in the occupied territories, bringing the 'Turkish-Cypriot land register' under Ankara's control, etc.
Les mesures y contenues prévoient, entre autres choses, l'octroi de la citoyenneté turque aux Cypriotes turcs et aux colons turcs, la colonisation et la distribution de terres dans les territoires occupés et la subordination du "cadastre cypriote turc" à Ankara.

As the only representative of the Italian Pensioners’ Party elected to this House, I hope and pray that two representatives – in this case – of the Cypriot Pensioners’ Party will be elected from the Republic of Cyprus too: one to defend the interests of what I hope will soon be the former Greek Cypriot community and the other from what I hope will soon be the former Turkish Cypriot community. This will give us more power to defend the interests of the elderly throughout Europe.
En tant qu'unique représentant au sein de cette Assemblée du parti des retraités élu en Italie, j'espère que deux représentants du parti des retraités de Chypre seront élus : l'un qui défendra les intérêts de l'ex-communauté - j'espère qu'elle le sera rapidement - gréco-chypriote et l'autre qui défendra les intérêts de l'ex-communauté - j'espère aussi qu'elle le sera rapidement - turco-chypriote. Will the Commission point out to Mr Denktash that obstructing dialogue and attempting to give the impression that the Cyprus question can be resolved on the very eve of closing negotiations for the accession of the applicant countries, or after that point, will not prevent the accession of the Republic of Cyprus but, on the contrary, will harm the vital interests of the Turkish Cypriots?
La Commission compte-t-elle adresser un message à M. Denktash pour lui signifier que les manœuvres d'obstruction et les efforts éventuellement déployés pour donner l'impression que la question chypriote pourrait être précisément réglée à la veille de la clôture des négociations d'adhésion des pays candidats ou même après celle-ci, ne saurait empêcher l'adhésion de la République chypriote à l'UE et ne ferait, au contraire, que porter préjudice aux intérêts vitaux des Chypriotes turcs ?
