The new ferry operator will be chosen following a public tender procedure. In his letter to the Danish Government Mr Van Miert insisted that a new ferry service should in any case be in a position to start operations no later than 1 June 1996. It has also been emphasized that the tender conditions, including its procedure and the criteria for selection have to be fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory to be consistent with competition law.
