The EU has also established an important human rights dialogue with China (and hopes to develop such a dialogue with North Korea); in Indonesia we are actively supporting efforts towards the strengthening of governance and civil society participation; and in relation to Burma/Myanmar and Pakistan the EU continues to encourage any opening towards democracy.

Taking note of the conclusions adopted on 4 June 2012 by the ILC Committee on the Application of Standards and considering that maintaining the existing measures would no longer help attaining the desired result, the ILC decided to lift restrictions, which excluded the Government of Myanmar/Burma from receiving ILO technical cooperation and assistance.

Welcomes elections in Thailand restoring democracy; calls for a credible process of democratisation and national reconciliation in Burma, that must involve the full participation of the opposition and ethnic groups, and demands the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners as well as the normalisation of activity of the political parties; supports the work of the UN and EU Special Representatives; asks the Council to maintain the restrictive measures against the Government of Burma, to follow the situation closely and, if developments in the country so require, to review those measures; asks ASEAN members, as well as China and India, to put pressure on Burma;

The restrictive measures provided for by Common Position 2006/318/CFSP included an arms embargo, a ban on technical assistance, financing and financial assistance related to military activities, a ban on the export of equipment which might be used for internal repression, the freezing of funds and economic resources of members of the Government of Burma/Myanmar and of any natural or legal persons, entities or bodies associated with them, a travel ban on such natural persons, and a prohibition on making financial loans or credits available to, and on acquiring or extending a participation in, Burmese state-owned enterprises.
