The EC therefore requested the SCENIHR to carry out a more detailed analysis of the current risk assessment methodology as laid down in the Technical Guidance Documents for chemicals, and its opinion was adopted after public consultation on 21-22 June 2007.[12] The SCENIHR concluded that, while the current methodologies are generally likely to be able to identify the hazards associated with the use of nanoparticles, modifications of the existing guidance will be necessary.
Par conséquent, la Commission européenne a demandé au CSRSEN d’effectuer une analyse plus approfondie de la méthodologie en vigueur pour l’évaluation du risque, qui est fixée dans les documents d’orientation technique pour les produits chimiques. Pentabromodiphenyl ether, hexabromodiphenyl ether, heptabromodiphenyl ether and tetrabromodiphenyl ether are not currently being placed on the market in the Union as they are restricted by Commission Regulation (EC) No 552/2009 of 22 June 2009 amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as regards Annex XVII (7) and Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (8).

Calls on the Commission and Member States to support research on biotechnology applications offering clear social or environmental benefits, including the development of GM micro-organisms for water purification, land regeneration, the replacement of hazardous chemical substances currently in use and the development of sustainable and environmentally favourable energy sources (including biogas, hydrogen and second-generation biofuels);

(8) Therefore it is essential to harmonise the provisions and criteria for the classification and labelling of substances and mixtures within the Community, taking into full account the classification criteria and labelling rules of the GHS, but also by building on the 40 years of experience obtained through implementation of existing Community chemicals legislation and maintaining the level of protection achieved through the system of harmonisation of classification and labelling, through Community hazard classes not yet part of the GHS as well as through current labelling and packaging rules.
