Some traditional practices of extensive fish farming in wetlands, such as brackish water ponds, tidal areas and costal lagoons, closed by levees and banks, have existed for centuries and are valuable in terms of cultural heritage, biodiversity conservation and economic perspective for the local communities.

4. Recognises that, in times of demographic change and other processes affecting the EU as a whole, the Roma population, which has been part of our common heritage for centuries and is the largest ethnic minority in the EU, should be given incentives through good quality education, decent housing and job opportunities to fully integrate into the work place and contribute to smart, sustainable and inclusive economic development as foreseen in the EU 2020 strategy, in particular in the ‘European Platform against Poverty’ initiative; takes the view that social inclusion is a precondition for achieving the EU 2020 strategy objectives; calls on the Member States and the local and regional public authorities, therefore, to increase their efforts now, by reinforcing their effective strategies for addressing the specific circumstances (deep poverty, lack of education and access to social services, poor health conditions, lack of civil registration documents, segregated and substandard housing, low level of employment) of marginalised communities, as an imperative in order to combat social exclusion of the Roma population and contribute to further integration within Member States; emphasises that a successful policy is a mixture of approaches taking social, economic and cultural factors into account;
4. reconnaît que, vu les évolutions démographiques et les autres processus qui touchent l'UE dans son ensemble, la population rom, qui fait partie de notre patrimoine commun depuis des siècles et qui représente la minorité ethnique la plus importante dans l'UE, devrait bénéficier d'incitations – grâce à une éducation de qualité, à des logements décents et à des possibilités d'emploi – pour s'intégrer pleinement au marché du travail et contribuer ainsi au développement économique intelligent, durable et inclusif comme prévu dans la stratégie UE 2020, en particulier dans l'initiative "plateforme européenne contre la pauvreté"; considère que l'inclusion sociale est une condition préalable à la réalisation des objectifs de la stratégie Europe 2020; demande par conséquent aux États membres et aux autorités publiques régionales et locales d'accroître dès à présent leurs efforts en renforçant leurs stratégies visant à résoudre effectivement les difficultés spécifiques (extrême pauvreté, absence d'éducation et d'accès aux services sociaux, mauvaises conditions sanitaires, absence de documents d'état civil, ségrégation et médiocrité du logement, faible niveau d'emploi) des communautés marginalisées, comme il est impératif de le faire pour lutter contre l'exclusion sociale des populations roms et contribuer à une meilleure intégration au sein des États membres; souligne qu'une politique efficace résulte d'une combinaison d'approches qui tiennent compte des facteurs sociaux, économiques et culturels;

– (ES) My vote in support of the de Veyrac report on the application of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in the Member States of the European Union is based on the conviction that we must enhance the cultural dimension of the European Union. We must work to ensure we have a cultural policy in the Union which highlights, among the main features of its spiritual richness and that of the Old World, its cultural, linguistic, architectural and artistic diversity and all those elements that make up our common cultural heritage. This is clear when you travel around the Union and see how the diverse spiritual trends over the centuries have been embodied in our monuments, artistic styles, value systems, religious and spiritual trends, and schools of philosophical and scientific thought.

Cooperation projects for the preservation and enhancement of the value of the European archaeological heritage The theme was open to projects related to all categories of monuments and sites as well as movable archaeological objects conserved in situ whether they fall under terrestrial archaeology (until the end of the 16 century) or subaquatic archaeology (until the end of the 18th century).

THE CINEMA'S FIRST CENTURY At the initiative of the French delegation, the Council adopted the following Resolution on the cinema's first century: "THE COUNCIL Aware of the place which the cinema has occupied for a hundred years in our common cultural heritage and the importance of its influence on the development of other means of expression and communication both in the arts and in the media; Aware of the fundamental role as a witness to the history of our community which the cinema has played throughout that period, Recognizing the importance of the cultural, technical and economic exchanges it has led to in Europe, Whereas the centenary of the invention of the cinematograph will be celebrated in the next few years, AGREES, with a view to celebrating the centenary of cinema, to: - increase action to restore films from the European heritage in the context of greater co-operation between Member States' archives, notably in the framework of the MEDIA programme (Lumière project); - encourage the dissemination of this heritage in European festivals and cinemas in initiatives to highlight the importance of this heritage for the future of European cinema; - promote awareness of the artistic trends of European cinema, its pioneers and its schools, in the interests of a continuing dialogue with contemporary film-makers; CALLS ON the Commission to participate in this campaign, in particular in liaison with the Council of Europe, by: - continuing and expanding its activities to commemorate this centenary, particularly as part of its action in support of film festivals; - helping to give maximum publicity to action taken in all Member States".
PREMIER SIECLE DU CINEMA Le Conseil a adopté, sur initiative de la délégation française, la résolution reprise ci-après sur le premier siècle du cinéma". LE CONSEIL, conscient de la place qu'occupe depuis un siècle le cinéma dans le patrimoine culturel commun et de son influence capitale sur le développement des autres moyens d'expression et de communication tant dans le domaine artistique que dans celui des médias ; conscient du rôle fondamental de témoin de l'histoire de notre communauté qu'a joué le cinéma tout au long de cette période ; reconnaissant l'importance des échanges culturels, techniques et économiques qu'il a suscités en Europe ; considérant que sera célébré dans les prochaines années le centenaire de l'invention du cinématographe, CONVIENT, en vue de célébrer le centenaire du cinéma : - de renforcer les actions de restauration de films du patrimoine européen dans le cadre d'une coopération accrue des archives des Etats membres, notamment dans le cadre du programme MEDIA (projet Lumière) ; - d'encourager la diffusion de ce patrimoine dans les festivals et les salles d'Europe, dans le cadre d'initiatives permettant de mettre en relief de façon dynamique l'importance de ce patrimoine pour le futur du cinéma européen ; - de favoriser la connaissance des courants esthétiques du cinéma européen, de ses pionniers et des ses écoles, dans un souci permanent de dialogue avec la création contemporaine ; INVITE la Commission à participer à cette manifestation, notamment en liaison avec le Conseil de l'Europe : - en poursuivant et élargissant ses interventions en vue de la commémoration de ce centenaire, notamment dans le cadre de son action de soutien aux festivals de film ; - en concourant à donner le retentissement le plus large aux actions menées dans l'ensemble des Etats membres".

The selected projects refer to monuments of exceptional importance and cover a period ranging from the 7th Century BC to the 20th Century AC, respecting thus an equilibrium among the great variety of both monuments and historic periods of Europe's Heritage.
Les projets sélectionnés se réfèrent aux monuments d'importance exceptionnelle et couvrent une période allant du 7ème siècle A.C. au 20ème siècle A.D., respectant en conséquence un équilibre entre la grande variété de monuments et d'époques historiques du patrimoine européen.
