There has been some research done in the United States, using hypothetical mergers of banks and insurance companies, operating companies that were hypothetically merged through a simulation, that shows that if you bring banks and life insurance companies together, there will be some cost savings through what are called ``economies of scope'' and there will also be a reduction of bankruptcy risk.
