These include five measures with the EIB (two in 2000, i.e. Craiova and Braila, and three in 2001, i.e. Cluj, Focsani and Pascani) and six measures with the EBRD (two in 2000, i.e. Constanta and Iasi, and four in 2001, i.e. Arad, Oradea, Timisoara and Targu Mures).

Arrangements are in hand for the Ungheni beneficiary to visit the Uzhgorod project and a counterpart organisation has already been identified in Iasi in Romania.

Welcomes the opening of the Iași-Ungheni gas interconnector; calls on the Commission to intensify efforts in the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline by, inter alia, facilitating co-financing by other international partners and strengthening financial support in order to finalise the project as soon as possible;

Welcomes the political determination to fulfil the requirements of the Association Agreement, including the DCFTA, as well as the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan and the progress with regard to the initialling of the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline project; praises the modernisation efforts undertaken in the country, in particular the increased expenditure on education; calls for the rapid signature and completion of all necessary steps in order to implement the Agreement as soon as possible; is aware, however, of the weakness of the democratic institutions and of the need for the steady reinforcement of those institutions; encourages the Government of Moldova to continue to work hard on the implementation of the necessary measures; believes that political stability and enduring consensus on reforms, especially as regards the rule of law and independence from state institutions, are of paramount importance to Moldova’s European aspirations;
