Industry Commissioner Martin Bangemann met on 6 February 1997 with the Presidents of the European Standardization Institutions CEN (European Committee for Standardisation, acting President: Mr. Ivar Jachwitz), CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, Président: Mr. Heinz Wanda) and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, President: Mr. Antonio Castillo) to discuss the further role that standards can play in Europe and worldwide, to promote European competitivity, to abolish barriers to trade and to bring on its way the information society.

Ivar Jachwitz), CENELEC (Comité européen de normalisation électrotechnique, présidé par M. Heinz Wanda) et ETSI (Institut européen de normalisation des télécommunications, présidé par M.
