Overall there is no sign of an increase in earnings inequality in Europe since the 1970s, whereas in the US, the trend since the 1970s is increasing. Yet the EU has marked differences between countries. Some countries, such as the UK, Poland and Denmark, showed increasing earnings inequalities in the 1990s, while others such as France display the opposite trend.
