Ahead of her departure, Commissioner Georgieva stated: "While all eyes are set on the tremendous changes happening on the political scene with the Arab Spring and the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, we must not forget the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian Territory.

Calls on the HR/VP to initiate in close cooperation with the Arab League the opening of negotiations with the Palestinian National Authority on the control, the management and the international border assistance mission of the crossing points from and into the Gaza strip, including the Gaza port, taking into account also the role of the de facto authorities of the Gaza strip; calls on the EU to actively support the ongoing inter-Palestinian reconciliation process;

Emphasises that both partners should continue to strive for a peaceful and just settlement of the Middle East conflict and welcomes the fact that it represents one of the most urgent priorities of the US Administration; calls on the US Administration to coordinate closely with the EU and engage in the Quartet; emphasises that both partners should strive for intensification of the negotiations based on the road map and the previous agreement, with the objective of a two-state solution with an independent, viable Palestinian state; calls on the transatlantic partners to support efforts to bring about inter-Palestinian reconciliation, and points out the importance of improving the living conditions of Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza, including the reconstruction of Gaza;
3. souligne que les deux partenaires doivent s'efforcer d'arriver à un règlement pacifique et équitable du conflit au Moyen-Orient, et salue le fait que cet objectif représente l'une des toutes premières priorités du gouvernement des États-Unis; demande au gouvernement des États-Unis d'œuvrer en coordination étroite avec l'Union européenne et de s'engager dans le Quatuor; souligne que les deux partenaires doivent s'efforcer de relancer les négociations, en se fondant sur la feuille de route et l'accord précédent, avec pour objectif la coexistence de deux États, dont un État palestinien indépendant viable; encourage les partenaires transatlantiques à soutenir les efforts visant à la réconciliation interpalestinienne et souligne l'importance d'améliorer les conditions de vie des Palestiniens en Cisjordanie et à Gaza, notamment en œuvrant pour la reconstruction du territoire;
