With the extension[3] of Tempus III to the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries, the programme also sought to promote inter-cultural dialogue and understanding as a means to secure sustainable growth, peace and stability and reinforce the intercultural and civil society dimension of the programme.
Avec l’extension[3] de Tempus III aux pays du sud et de l’est de la Méditerranée, le programme visait également à promouvoir le dialogue interculturel et la compréhension en tant que moyen d’assurer une croissance durable, la paix et la stabilité et de renforcer le rôle de la société civile et la dimension interculturelle du programme.

Our results have even garnered us invitations to speak at the Metropolis Conference in Vancouver in March 2011, to jointly facilitate a workshop at the International Metropolis Conference on immigration in the Azores in September 2011, and to share our experience at a workshop hosted by the Museum of Civilization in Quebec City this coming October. I think it's safe to say that these invitations reflect, to some extent, acknowledgement of how unique and effective our approach is, as well as the fact that multiculturalism and interculturalism are on the radar of researchers and policy makers in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and around the world.

Additionally it aims to promote inter-cultural dialogue and understanding among them as a means to secure sustainable growth, peace and stability in the region and serves to reinforce the intercultural and civil society dimension of the programme.

The candidate countries should nevertheless be closely associated with actions under the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue through initiatives to promote developing intercultural dialogue within the relevant frameworks for cooperation and dialogue, particularly in the context of the civil society dialogue between the EU and these countries (4).

2. The Commission shall endeavour to involve the candidate countries in the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, on the basis of their participation in a number of Community programmes including an intercultural dialogue dimension and by developing specific initiatives in appropriate frameworks, particularly in the context of civil society dialogue between the EU and candidate countries.
