The programme relevant to cross- border co-operation is Interreg IIIA, it lays down that all local areas located on external and internal land borders, and some maritime areas, are eligible for support.

As far as the Commission is concerned, it is clear that this principle defined by the Executive Committee regarding internal land borders is also, by analogy, applicable to airports.
