Is extremely alarmed by the resurgence of pro-death penalty speeches in Europe and by the extrajudicial executions being implemented by the British Government in Syria; stresses that the fight against terrorism can never justify overriding international law; calls therefore for an immediate and independent international investigation and for those responsible to be brought to justice; calls also for an independent general investigation on the use of extrajudicial execution by the Member States, particularly in the context of the fight against terrorism, and urges all parties to put an immediate end to these practices which are in contravention of international law and could be considered a de facto re-establishment of the death penalty;

Calls on the Russian authorities to guarantee political pluralism, media freedom, the rule of law, the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, freedom of speech and assembly, including on the internet, effective and independent trade unions, and non-discrimination, as a necessary precondition for Russia’s further development and modernisation in such a way as to recognises and protect the individual and collective rights of all its citizens; recalls that, under international law, states have an obligation to support, directly or indirectly, the funding of civil society activities, in particular by creating a favourable environment, without interfering in their independence;

Urges the EU to pro-actively contribute and support, at the upcoming HRC session, a resolution relating to the report on follow-up of the committee of independent experts to the international Fact-Finding mission on the Gaza conflict in order to ensure accountability for the violations of international law and support a referral to the GA and to International Justice mechanisms in case of Israel and Palestinian parties have failed to comply with their obligation to carry out investigations according to international standards; further calls on the High Representative to actively monitor compliance with the findings of the ‘Follow-up to the report of the international fact-finding mission on the incident of the humanitarian flotilla’, ensuring principles of accountability and liability are upheld; welcomes the statements by the UN High Commissioner for Human Right on her first visit to the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel and, in particular, the strong message that she conveyed that ‘international human rights law and international humanitarian law are not negotiable’;

We naturally respect the independence of the legislative process in Afghanistan, in particular with regard to the Constitution, which does indeed make provision, under Article 131, for the possibility of legislation devoted solely to the Shiite community. Nevertheless, along with our partners we have supported an approach targeting certain articles of that law that are scarcely compatible with the Afghan Constitution or the international law that the Afghan Government has signed up to.
