In reply to the Lisbon Treaty comment from my colleague Liam Aylward, may I say that, yes, inspections did cause a problem.

May I also comment on the fact that many of the Members of Parliament here have made a distinction or a divide between reality – with unemployment and an economic crisis – on the one hand, and the text of the Lisbon Treaty on the other, but of course, the whole idea is that the text of the Lisbon Treaty is there to deal with the context and that we will be better equipped to take effective decisions on immigration or asylum policy, on energy security, etc.
Si vous me le permettez, je voudrais également signaler que bon nombre des députés du Parlement ont établi ici une distinction entre la réalité – le chômage et la crise économique notamment – et le texte du traité de Lisbonne. Toutefois, l’idée est évidemment est que le texte de ce Traité est là pour aborder la situation et qu’il nous permettra davantage de prendre des décisions efficaces sur la politique d’immigration ou d’asile, sur la sécurité énergétique, etc.
