– having regard to the statement of 13 September 2005 by the Presidency of the European Union on the obstacles placed in the path of the activities of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), and the steps taken following the prohibition of the Congress of the LTDH,
— vu la déclaration de la présidence de l'Union du 13 septembre 2005 sur les entraves mises aux activités de la Ligue tunisienne des droits de l'homme (LTDH) et les démarches entreprises suite à l'interdiction du congrès de la LTDH,

5. Calls on the Tunisian authorities to allow the LTDH and the Union of Tunisian Journalists (SJT) to hold their congresses and to release the European funds allocated to the LTDH, the Association of Tunisian Women for Research and Development (AFTURD) and Santé Sud; also calls on the Tunisian authorities to cooperate fully with the Commission with a view to implementing promptly the "Modernisation of justice" project financed under the MEDA programme 2004-2006 which, as a matter of priority, should strengthen safeguards concerning judicial independence;
5. demande aux autorités tunisiennes de permettre à la LTDH et au syndicat des journalistes tunisiens (SJT) de tenir leur congrès et de débloquer les fonds européens alloués à la LTDH, à l'Association des femmes tunisiennes pour la recherche et le développement (AFTURD) et à Santé Sud; demande, parallèlement, aux autorités tunisiennes de coopérer pleinement avec la Commission pour mettre en œuvre rapidement le projet "modernisation de la justice" financé par le programme MEDA 2004-2006 qui, prioritairement, devrait renforcer les garanties de l'indépendance de la justice;

– having regard to the EU Presidency declaration of 13 September 2005 on the obstruction of the work of the Tunisian League of Human Rights (LTDH) and to the action taken following the banning of the LTDH congress and the significant abuses which occurred during the World Information Society Summit,
– vu la Déclaration de la Présidence de l'Union européenne sur les entraves mises aux activités de la Ligue tunisienne des droits de l'homme (LTDH) du 13 septembre 2005 et les démarches entreprises suite à l'interdiction du Congrès de la LTDH ainsi qu'aux violations graves observées dans le cadre du Sommet mondial de la Société de l'information,

– having regard to the statement of 13 September 2005 by the Presidency of the European Union on the obstacles placed in the path of the activities of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), the representations made following the banning of the LTDH Congress and the serious violations observed at the World Summit on the Information Society,
– vu la déclaration de la Présidence de l'Union européenne sur les entraves mises aux activités de la Ligue tunisienne des droits de l'homme (LTDH), du 13 septembre 2005 et les démarches entreprises suite à l'interdiction du Congrès de la LTDH ainsi qu'aux violations graves observées dans le cadre du Sommet mondial de la société de l'information,

5. Calls on the Tunisian authorities to grant conference permission to the LTDH and the Tunisian Journalists' Union (SJT) and to unblock the EU funding for the LTDH, the Association of Tunisian Women for Research and Development and Santé Sud; calls on the Tunisian authorities, in parallel, to cooperate fully with the Commission in the rapid implementation of the project for modernising the legal system financed by the MEDA 2004-2006 programme, whose priority should be to strengthen the guarantees of the independence of the judiciary; in this spirit, calls on the Tunisian authorities to ensure the rights of the Tunisian Magistrates' Association (AMT) and of the bar and to free all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience;
5. demande aux autorités tunisiennes de permettre à la LTDH et au Syndicat des journalistes tunisiens (SJT) de tenir leur congrès et de débloquer les fonds européens alloués à la LTDH, à l'AFTURD et à Santé Sud; demande, parallèlement, aux autorités tunisiennes de coopérer pleinement avec la Commission pour mettre en œuvre rapidement le projet "modernisation de la justice" financé par le programme MEDA 2004-2006 qui, prioritairement, devrait renforcer les garanties de l'indépendance de la Justice; demande, dans cet esprit, aux autorités tunisiennes de garantir les droits de l'Association des magistrats tunisiens (AMT) ainsi que ceux du barreau et de libérer l'ensemble des prisonniers politiques et d'opinion;
