The Award ceremony was hosted by the European Investment Bank (EIB) on November 15 where the award was presented by HRH Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chair of the High Jury, President of the Yunus Centre and Nobel Peace Prize 2006, in the presence of the Luxembourg Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Marie-Josée Jacobs, the President of EIB, Werner Hoyer and (by video link) the European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs.
Organisée au siege de la Banque européenne d'investissement (BEI), la cérémonie de remise de prix a eu lieu le 15 novembre. Le prix a été décerné par S.A.R. la Grande-Duchesse Maria Teresa de Luxembourg, accompagnée par le président du grand jury, le professeur Muhammad Yunus, président du Yunus Centre et prix Nobel de la paix 2006, et en présence de la ministre luxembourgeoise de la coopération et de l'action humanitaire Marie-Josée Jacobs, du président de la BEI, Werner Hoyer, et (par vidéoconférence) du commissaire européen chargé du développement, Andris Piebalgs.

Mr Olli Rehn, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary affairs, Mr Vítor Constancio, Vice-President of the European Central Bank, and Mr Luc Frieden, Minister of Finance of Luxembourg, will be setting the scene as key note speakers providing first-hand the latest information on the EU’s response to the financial crisis.

Commissioner VAN MIERT presented to the Council the report on the services of general economic interest in the banking sector, adopted by the Commission in June following the conclusions of the Amsterdam European Council (declaration on German Laenderbanken - public credit institutions - and subsequent Austrian and Luxembourg declarations).
