In accordance with Article 22 of Regulation (EC) No 683/2008 on the further implementation of the European satellite radio navigation programmes (EGNOS and Galileo) (hereinafter the ‘GNSS Regulation’)[1] and with reference to the GNSS work programme adopted in 2008, the Commission hereby presents the first annual report on the implementation of the programmes and on the main challenges ahead.
Conformément à l’article 22 du règlement (CE) n° 683/2008 du 9 juillet 2008 relatif à la poursuite de la mise en œuvre des programmes européens de radionavigation par satellite (EGNOS et Galileo) (ci-après «le règlement GNSS»)[1], et eu égard au programme de travail GNSS adopté en 2008, la Commission présente le premier rapport annuel sur la mise en œuvre des programmes et les principaux défis à venir.

The main challenge for the international activities of the GNSS Programmes in 2009 will be to ensure the compatibility and interoperability with Galileo, to access global GNSS-related resources and set worldwide standards, to ensure security of the space segment and network of ground stations, while ensuring a stricter control of sensitive GNSS technologies developed with European funding, to join in an international effort to develop innovative applications and specialised applications of supra-regional interest.
Le principal défi pour les activités internationales des programmes GNSS en 2009 consistera à assurer la compatibilité et l'interopérabilité avec Galileo, à accéder aux ressources GNSS mondiales et à établir des normes mondiales, à garantir la sécurité du segment spatial et du réseau de stations au sol, tout en assurant un contrôle plus sévère des technologies GNSS sensibles développées grâce au financement européen, ainsi qu'à participer au développement international d'applications innovantes et spécialisées d'intérêt suprarégional.
