I congratulate him because he has produced an excellent report responding to a demand from the Canary Islands – one of the outermost regions of the Union that has some specific tax features, supported on a sound legal basis (Article 299(2) of the Treaty). I thank him because, through his excellent work and his flexibility, he has managed to gather a solid parliamentary majority around him which makes it seem likely that the report will be approved within the next few hours, which will put an end to a long parliamentary journey that began almost two years ago.
Je tiens à le féliciter, car il a fourni un excellent rapport, qui répond à une demande des îles Canaries - l’une des régions ultrapériphériques de l’Union bénéficiant de mesures fiscales spécifiques avalisées par une base juridique solide (l’article 299, paragraphe 2, du Traité) -, et je tiens également à le remercier car, grâce à son excellent travail et à sa flexibilité, il a permis de rassembler autour de lui une réelle majorité parlementaire, ce qui laisse présumer l’approbation de ce rapport d’ici quelques heures et mettra un terme à un long périple parlementaire entamé il y a près de deux ans.
