The Commission, in order to promote a more gender balanced approach in the field of research policy, committed itself in the implementation of the Fifth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development in 1999, to appoint women to make up 40% of the members of consultative assemblies, expert advisory groups and assessment and monitoring panels in the field of research [12], an initiative welcomed by the Council, which adopted a resolution of its own in May 1999 on "Women in Science", confirming its own commitment to promoting equality in this area.
Afin de promouvoir une approche plus équilibrée entre les sexes dans le domaine de la recherche, la Commission s'est engagée, en 1999, à l'occasion de la mise en oeuvre du cinquième programme cadre de recherche et développement technologique, à nommer 40% de femmes au sein des assemblées consultatives, des groupes consultatifs d'experts et des panels d'évaluation et de suivi constitués dans le secteur de la recherche [12]; cette initiative a été favorablement accueillie par le Conseil, qui a adopté en mai 1999 une résolution sur "Les femmes dans la science", confirmant ainsi sa propre volonté de promouvoir l'égalité dans ce domaine.
