What I will say, in quite specific terms, and speaking as someone from a country that has the honour of providing the EU with one-fifth of its funding, is that our concern is that, when so much money is called for – despite the lack of any increase over the past in terms of percentages of gross national income, although I will mention in passing that gross national income has increased as a consequence of enlargement – there must of course be some value given in return for this money.
Spécifiquement parlant, je dirai, en tant que représentant d’un pays qui a l’honneur de fournir à l’UE un cinquième de son financement, que notre préoccupation concerne le fait que, lorsque une telle somme est réclamée - malgré l’absence d’augmentation, au cours des années passées, en termes de pourcentage du produit national brut, même si je ferai remarquer en passant que le produit national brut s’est bel et bien accru à la suite de l’élargissement -, il faut bien entendu garantir une exploitation optimale de cette somme.
