Nicolas Schmit, President-in-Office of the Council (FR) Firstly, in respect of the security issues, I can simply state that, given the progress that now appears to be taking shape, and in view of the elections that have been held in the Palestinian Territories, the European Union will have to make a more sturdy commitment to assisting in the implementation of all the security provisions which will enable the peace process to continue, and thus achieve the objective of creating a Palestinian State.
Nicolas Schmit, président en exercice du Conseil . - D’abord concernant les questions de sécurité, je peux simplement dire que, compte tenu de l’évolution qui semble maintenant se dessiner, compte tenu des élections qui ont eu lieu dans les territoires palestiniens, l’Union européenne devra s’engager plus durablement pour aider à mettre en place tous les dispositifs de sécurité permettant au processus de paix de se poursuivre, et arriver ainsi à l’objectif qui est la création d’un État palestinien.
