The proposal to adopt implementing measures using a Regulatory committee of Member States representatives, chaired by the Commission, is in itself reasonable. Nevertheless it will be important to ensure that an effective mechanism exists to allow those in the industry with day to day responsibility for implementing the decisions made by the Regulatory committee to advise that committee.

Yet the Commission’s reforms of such an important body as the Advisory Committee, which is the only body to involve the fishing industry in decisions affecting it, have prompted serious criticisms and doubts in Parliament, in the Council and in the industry itself. These criticisms involve the fact that a large part of the industry actually involved in fishing is not sufficiently represented on this new committee.
Qui plus est, tout cela a lieu alors que le remaniement par la Commission d'un organisme aussi important que le Comité consultatif, seul organe prévu pour impliquer le secteur dans les décisions le concernant, a suscité moult doutes et critiques de la part du Parlement, du Conseil et du secteur lui même, qui considèrent qu'une grande partie du secteur véritablement concerné par la pêche ne dispose pas de la représentativité nécessaire au sein de ce nouveau comité.
