This refers to the gradual increase in the educational levels required to gain employment in a particular field, often driven by the increasing complexity of the work involved. The HSAA gave the examples of the Michener Institute in Ontario that has recently moved from a two-year program in medical radiation technology and nuclear medicine, to a five-year program, and of the proposal in Alberta to require a masters level program for entry to clinical practice in physical therapy.[180]
